Early Life – Roots in Two Worlds

David's early years were characterized by a deep immersion in two cultures. Growing up in a Mexican American household on the border of Texas and Coahuila, David was raised speaking Spanish at home and English at work and school. This bilingual upbringing not only enriched his personal identity but also equipped him with a unique skill set that would later become one of his greatest assets in the world of media and entertainment.

Overall, David's passion for music and entertainment surfaced early, leading him to an exciting role at a radio station while still in high school and building himself a name as a DJ in Mexico. After graduation, David ultimately moved to Austin in 1995 to pursue higher education. There, he laid the foundation for his future, earning a Bachelor's in Business Management from St. Edward's University and a Master's in Mass Communications from Texas State University.

Career – Airways to Stages

David’s early exposure to the media world began in high school when he worked at his local hometown radio station and DJ’d at nightclubs in Mexico. This dual experience is what carried him through college and and eventually caught the attention of the GRAMMY Awards and Latin GRAMMYs, leading him to a scaling role as Project Manager for the Recording Academy. Here, David had the pleasure of producing music showcases, educational events, and speaker panels.

Despite the allure of the GRAMMYs, David resigned after two years to pursue graduate studies. During this period, David ventured into the digital sphere, launching his YouTube Channel and creating a Myspace account to promote his work and connect with a broader audience. His knack for producing engaging content led to his recruitment from Univision, where he was hired as a Producer and Entertainment Reporter. Over 11 years, David's role at Univision evolved into becoming the Creative Director. Here, David oversaw the marketing for the TV and Radio station cluster, produced concerts, events and televised performances for Top Latin acts, and ultimately shaped how Latin entertainment was consumed and appreciated across international networks.

Amid his tenure at Univision, David still kept a firm pulse on side projects. Notably, David spent his off-hours working individually with a diverse range of clients who needed help with their marketing and promotions. That said, what was once considered a passion side hustle soon became a full-time opportunity. This shift inspired David to embark on a new chapter, pivoting from the corporate world in 2018 to establish his own boutique marketing agency called Rivers Media. Leveraging his extensive experience in radio, TV, film production, marketing, and communications, David now serves a diverse clientele, offering talent and media production services for industries throughout Austin.

Today, David's career is a dynamic blend of media, music, and entertainment, marked by significant on-air talent roles, including commercials for Chevrolet and leading the highest-rated music TV show on weekends. This is complemented by being a 7+ year Adjunct Professor at the University of the Incarnate Word teaching the intricacies of Marketing, an active Bilingual Announcer for the broadcast shows of the Texas Lottery Commission, and creating the online course called ‘Media Master Course’ - a fundamental resource designed to educate, empower, and help others monetize their talents within the digital arena.

Family & Personal Life

Beyond the studios and spotlights, David's world revolves around his family. He shares his life in Austin with his loving wife, whom he met at one of his events, their two children and their German Shepherd. In his free time, David enjoys mapping out his next ambitions and grounding himself in the simple pleasures of life through gardening and tending to his indoor plant collection.
